Charleston Mercury cartoon – April 2016 – alligators

charleston mercury april 2016 cartoon by nancy lucas alligators

It just seems like alligators are everywhere in the Lowcountry.  Every man-made neighborhood pond or reflection pool is home to several gators. It’s advisable to not allow dogs to swim in such places. And be careful at dusk in summer. The gators move very quickly and can snatch you as you walk by a body of water.

You’re safe at the beach, most of the time. Gators typically prefer lakes but have been caught up in flooding and tide and appeared on Sullivans Island and the Isle of Palms.
